About me
Janis Bookout is a community leader and consultant that specializes in systems change, stakeholder collaboration, community engagement. She is also the director of Earth Day Austin (which runs the annual Earth Day ATX festival), and co-founder of Community Resilience Trust, a multi-racial collaborative focused on operationalizing equity during disaster and crisis response. Janis has held many professional roles, including elementary teaching, professional writing and editing, event management, small business consulting, community-led disaster management, and systems consulting. Janis’s previous clients have included numerous small businesses, Dallas Independent School District, Cleveland Independent School District, the University of California Legal Systems, and multiple offices within the City of Austin, including: Equity, Resilience, Innovation, Watershed Protection, Homeless Strategy, and Austin Public Health. Through her work with Community Resilience Trust she has helped lead multiple collaborative city-wide disaster initiatives, including a 60-organization and city agency response to Winter Storm Uri. She has also just completed her Masters in Public Health and is taking a new role as the director of Travis County Recovery Alliance, the county's leading network of response and recovery organizations.
