About me
Britton Smith is a Tony Award–winning artist, activist, and cultural strategist working at the intersection of storytelling, music, and social impact. He is the Co-Founder and President of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, a national organization uniting artists, legal experts, and community leaders to advance policy and cultural change. He co-created the Theater of Change methodology and serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School. A 2025 Hydro 20 Honoree with Waterloop, Smith’s work bridges art and water justice in collaboration with the U.S. Water Alliance. He is the creator of MAMA, a theatrical concert and concept album exploring water as a living teacher, and is developing the MAMA Impact Tour (2026)—a national series of free performances and community convenings in cities most impacted by water inequities. Smith is also the frontman of Britton & The Sting, a funk liberation band known for electrifying, sold-out performances at venues including the Apollo Music Café, Joe’s Pub, and Rockwood Music Hall. His work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New Yorker, FAULT Magazine, and Paper Magazine, and recognized by the NPR Tiny Desk Contest. As an actor, he has appeared in Run the World, as well as on Broadway in Be More Chill, Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, and After Midnight, and as a featured soloist in Great Performances. He is currently developing new work, including a national tour with Britton & The Sting and a project exploring the relationship between Black gay men and their grandmothers. @brittonsmithworld
